SpaceX Makes Historic Rocket Landing on a Floating Drone Ship
SpaceX, a privately held US space company, has finally executed a successful landing of its Falcon 9 rocket on a floating drone ship at sea, after launching the rocket into space on April 8, 2016. The company had four previous attempts all ended in failure. This successful landing is a key milestone for SpaceX, as it shows the company can land its rockets both on land and ocean.
While President Barack Obama shared a tweet congratulating Musk and NASA for their hard work and innovation, Elon Muck, SpaceX founder and CEO, told reporters:
There was excitement all around with the SpaceX crew in Mission Control.
Why is ocean landing important?
For half our missions, we will need to land out to sea. Anything beyond Earth is likely to need to land on the ship.
