TechTalk With Solomon 5th Year Anniversary Celebration & My Upcoming Book Announcement Event
It has been 5 years since I launched my weekly television show called TechTalk with Solomon on April 12, 2012, on Ethiopian Broadcasting Services (EBS). Growing up in Ethiopia, I didn’t get a chance to be exposed to science and technology at an early age. This instilled in me a passion and a deep sense of giving back to my community and my country of origin so that the younger generation do not have to go through what I went through. My desire to launch my TV show 5 years ago was deeply rooted in my dream of instilling academic and professional aspiration among the young in the field of science and technology. The show is also tailored for anyone with a curiosity for SciTech.
On May 6, 2017, I have hosted an event at one of the host beautiful and historic venue in Washington DC, The National Union Buiding. What a wonderful evening it was celebrating #TechTalkFifth and making my upcoming book announcement! I would like to thank God for all this! I would also like to thank my mom and my little princess, and all my friends! In the past 5 years, I have produced and hosted 130 episodes, interviewed 30 prominent guests, covered more than 500 science and technology topics, and reported from the ground of several high-profile US organizations like NASA, Boeing, Microsoft, Consumer Electronic Show, US States Department, and The George Washington University. Since its launch, my prime time show has gained huge popularity by millions of viewers, mainly the younger generation. I also have a strong presence on several social media platforms with 196,000+ FB followers, 7,000+ YouTube subscribers, 5,500+ Twitter Followers, 4,000+ LinkedIn followers.
As a result of my continuous desire and commitment to further spread knowledge in the field of science and technology, I am currently working on publishing and releasing my first book. The book will be one-of-its-kind Amharic publication with the aim of reaching millions. Anyone who reads the book will benefit from it as the book attempts to cover science and technology from different perspective—past history, major events, the present, and the future. Also, as a black and an Ethiopian-born writer, I will highlight black people’s contribution including our own Ethiopian innovators. Furthermore, I will discusses why Africa is lagging behind in SciTech advancements and propose a solution. The book will also attempt to relate several science and tech innovations with their adoption in Ethiopia through an interesting lens of historic events. The book is about 90 percent complete, with a projected length of 350 pages.
My desire is to provide others what I had hoped to have during my childhood – an adequate resource in the fields of science and technology. I have been doing that through my TV show for the past 5 years and soon by publishing my new book. I believe that this will inspire the next generation of scientists & engineers in Ethiopia by instilling a desire to study science and technology. Besides distributing the book with an extremely affordable price, I also has a vision to distribute multiple copies to several high schools, colleges, and universities both in urban and rural areas for free.
